What to Consider When Shopping for Vending Machines

The first step is to assess YOUR needs. There's no one-size-fits-all solution. Also, just because it costs more doesn't mean it's better. Just because it costs less doesn't mean it's worse.

Considerations:

Push button (classic) vs. Touch screen with PC (advanced)

- Push button is less expensive but doesn’t have the high-end look of advanced.

- Advanced has a wide variety of options, including customizability

Coil vs. Conveyor belt

- Coil is less configurable. When a product size changes, it often means replacing coils whereas conveyor belt machines allow the operator to easily configure the machine based on product size and shape.

- Coil machines are not suitable for all packaging types.

- When coils are an option, they tend to be somewhat more cost-effective.

Elevator or non-elevator

- Non-elevator is generally less expensive but can’t safely dispense fragile items

What kind of warranty does the seller offer? What does it cover?

What kind of service and support does the seller offer? Is there 24-hour support? Do they offer both remote and in-person support?

- If the seller provides support, what is their experience level? What industry connections/pull do they have?

- If you’re looking to scale your automated retail business, does the seller have experience helping companies do so?

What kind of initial and ongoing training is available?

Will the seller be able to arrange and assist with shipping and other logistics?

What additional services does the seller provide that you may need now or later?

  • Branding (both digital and physical (vinyl wrap))
  • Training regarding site placement, route optimization, hiring for roles
  • Preventative maintenance packages
  • Experience speaking with investors on the client’s behalf
  • Packaging analysis, vendibility studies
  • Assistance with planogram setup and capacity planning
  • Development of custom user interfaces
  • Custom design and fabrication of exteriors/facades for custom custom-branded look and feel
  • Introduction to vetted providers such as merchant services, internet providers, finance companies, etc.
  • Warranty management
  • Liaison with suppliers/vendors/manufacturers of all components
